I'm hoping the guys from Trinity can help as many of us bought the aFe CAI thru them.
I don't expect a refund from Trinity, they figured as all of us did that afe made quality products. Allthough a good deal on any future mod plans would be nice

Now you KNOW you're wrong for that!!! LOL! My question is what is causing the HP loss? The high MAF sensor temps at idle/low speeds are obvious. But it looks to have lost power accross the band. At speed, cool air should be rushing in, bringing air charge temperatures near parity with the stock unit. Yet, the graph doesn't seem to reflect this. The loss is dramatic. While I'm not privy to the type and size of the dyno fan used to simulate at-speed conditions, it's pretty hard to dispute the numbers. +-4 degree variation in ambiant for the test runs. I'd love to see the IAT temps on a live run at speed. I'm curious to know if the loss is due to high temps (which will require a redesign of the 'heat shield' provided with some of the CAI units), or is the loss due to faulty filter design. One question - was the 550 equipped with the aFe oiled/cotton or paper filter cone? (not that it would make much difference if temperature is the culprit accross the band)

No problem.

I feel horrible for selling a product that loses HP. I do apologize and I will not be selling AFE products anymore. I will be contacting the R&D President who made all the intakes and tell him what happen and what his plans are for the people with their products.

I have AFE, I already knew it sucks hot air. The solution I made for this is to cover/wrap the AFE with a Insulator or Heat Shields. The temperature drops a lot.

I think AFE should put somekind of Heat Shield or Insulator. BUT! when you drive the car at 80 or more kph (+50 mph) the air is a bit more cooler.

Based on this results.... I might want to install the Stock back or AFE should improve this and give us a new version for free. IMO.

Here is the picture with the insulator / heat shield.

I am pretty sure AFE loses HP gains due the HOT AIR specially for the climates of the South of US. Cooler or Cold Air will improve HP gains.

I am in Canada and right now the Temp is -1 C (32 F) The AFE is a beast. Believe me!

Hey guys. I want to thank iceman for letting me dyno his car. I got a chance to run the car pretty hard today (18 back to back to back runs).
Runs 1-5: stock with AFE intake. Ambient 78, IAT at idle 121. Max 256whp.

Runs 6-8: stock w/ K&N filter. Ambient 79m IAT at idle 82. Max 267whp.

Runs 9-11: stock w/ K&N filter + RPi V1 scoop. Ambient 80. IAT at idle 82. Max 264whp.

Runs 12-15: stock w/ K&N filter + RPi V1 scoop modified. Ambient 80. IAT at idle 81. Max 267whp. Max gain + 2whp and +5wtq.

I was pretty upset about the numbers so we will be doing more development work on the E60 scoop. Those of you who have purchased the scoop already will receive a FREE replacement when we release V2 for the 550. Our goal was to get a minimum of 5whp gain.

Did you test AFE + Scoops? I like to hear the results.
