Looks like there is a newer BTA2000 unit now too - anyone know any more?

Hello,
I asked for that to Dension Support.
I asked too about BTA1500, how to declare to the car without original bluetooth, if I need a TCU for declare in CCC or just the GW500+BTA1500 plugged.

Wait and see !

Hi nudda

I'm interested in exactly the same thing and have been reading through, probably like yourself. If you are based in the UK I'd be interested in where you buy and what your experience is.

In answer to your question. I understand that if your cd player in the console (not the CDC) plays an MP3 cd/dvd then you're ok. If it doesn't I believe that you need your dealer to do the MP3 retrofit. Someone please correct me if that's not right.

I wanted ipod connectivity from the first day I bought my car. For about two years now I'm reading the posts regarding this and it seems that there is a confusion if you can get Gateway 500 to work (with TEXT) on cars without professional radio (either M-ASK or CCC that is already programmed to play mp3). For this reason I have decided to upgrade my system from Business to Business Navigation which provides Professional radio and mp3 playback. Last Monday I installed GW 500 and I'm able to use it in TEXT mode. My conclusion after all this time, is that you can use GW 500 on any car, as long as you programmed it as ipod and not CDC. I'm not 100% sure about this, but since BMW's ipod module can display TEXT on any unit, I assume that you can achieve the same with GW 500 since diagnostic computer recognizes GW 500 as ipod module and you don't need to have BMW's hardware to perform the retrofit. I also installed BTA 1500, but bluetooth retrofit wasn't available on my SA's computer for retrofit. Even with out bluetooth retrofit I'm able to use BTA 1500 to answer calls (the caller's name is appearing on i-drive). I'm sure I will be able to retrofit bluetooth and use all the features of BTA 1500 on my next visit to SA.

I noticed that you have ipod most module already installed. Is very easy and you can do it yourself since you don't need programming. You just have to replace ipod module with GW500. In my case wasn't that easy because I didn't have CDC preparation or ipod module and we had to remove trim in order to gain access to the back of the HU.

Hi All,

I have a MY 2004 545i (build date Jan 04 so non-BT TCU), Business Nav (8.8in screen), Logic7, and CDC. I haven't actually checked the TCU for it's part number but I do not see a Bluetooth menu and under the Phone menu I have the "Mobile Phone not available" error. I also am not sure yet if the HU has been updated to allow MP3 playback but will pull this information together asap... but still have the following questions:

After a few days of surfing around and digging thru this forum (THANK YOU FORUM BTW) it seems that instead of buying a replacement TCU and having that dealer installed ($1500 + many known incompatibilities with phones) I may be better off going the "Gateway 500 + BTA2000 + IVE1000 + NAVTV" route. Anyone have this experience that can comment on the reliability of the Dension solution? Any crashing.. frequency, reproducability, your frustration level.. overall are you happy with this? What would you do differently? Since the existing TCU doesn't have BT enabled will I have to go to the dealer and have them do a software update to enable the BT functionality (and integrated iDrive interfaces) or do I still need to upgrade to a newer TCU or does that come into play at all? I know I may need to have the MP3 update done if it hasn't been done so already. I really don't need to keep the CDC installed... don't think I even have 6 CDs that I want to keep in the car.. especially with an iPOD in place! Anyone using a Blackberry Bold (9000) with the BTA2000? I don't really want/need to play media from my phone so not sure if the BTA1500 or BTA1000 would be a better (more reliable) solution - input appreciated..I'm really concerned about reliability.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN DO THE INSTALL IN THE VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA AREA?

I hope you guys know that you can have the dealer do the mp3 retrofit done for FREE. I found this SIB form BMW and used this about a couple of weeks ago. Just print and took this to my dealer and asked my SA to enable my mp3 as it was not recognizing the cd in the dash cd player.

Four hours lagter I got the car back and boom I can play mp3 cds now in the dash. Next -- GW 500 diy..

Here is the SIB for your reference again.
