Why Dension is good for us?
It hooks up all what is with usb or Ipod or other connections, you have the menu on the screen and it searches for artists, etc, text version with ID3 Tag.
I have pics of a 7er and hope finally soon I can show how it works in 5er.

I did check with BMW on the cost of retrofitting the Prof radio, they reckoned ?1200 even though it was only a ?200 option at purchase time. I'd be careful to clarify exactly what you need, as I recall the Prof radio was needed to read mp3 on the dash CD. However I seem to recall something about CCC versus MASK head units.

I'm no expert but here is what I think:
M-ASK is the cut down controller which, unfortunatley is the idiot brother of the CCC with considerably less brain cells
It cannot ever do MP3 decoding from the in dash CD nor it would appear handle anything intelligent like the Dension unit connected through the MOST (fibre) bus. The CCC with its surplus of neurones can handle extreme leading edge stuff like the second in dash DVD slot 
In my limited understanding:
If No Navigation + No Prof Radio = M-ASK
If No Navigation + Prof Radio = CCC
If Navigation + No Prof Radio = CCC
If Navigation + Professional Radio = CCC
I think also it got more complicated in 2005 when US models appear to have gotten Prof radio as standard. So maybe owners got the CCC in some regions without realising it
The thing I find odd is that the folks who already have the CCC/DVD and up to date CIP software already have the option to listen to MP3s from their in dash CD/DVD. I would imagine it is people who own an E60 with the M-ASK who would more readily pay out for the Dension. This might just be an insurmountable technical issue for Dension though clearly BMW must have found a way round it with their I-POD interface because I'm told that now works with all model E60s with the latest CIP upgrade. But I guess you can do that when you have all the source code.
My only hope is that Dension are trying to work around this somehow. Or maybe get the unit to work but without song titles displayed in the i-drive...even that would be better than nothing!

could you do me a favour when you visit Dension? Find out if they have any plans to support the many E60 owners with M-ASK or whether there is some technical reason why this isn't feasible?
Knowing this will help me decide next steps, I have set myself a limit of end of May at which point I'll just give up and have the BMW interface installed.

I will get you all details on the week of 16th May, I am there and we do a SW update by BMW then Dension sees if all is cool.
They have confirmed now the menu is even better!!! Cannot wait to see, my 0.02s worths a bit more waiting, more pics even of the car comes that week.
