Mudflaps/mudguards are a must!
But i would remove them from time to time, probably after winter driving like springtime to clean the crap that has built up underneath and around them.

Are the one from the bavauto.com easy to mount? They will be a good idea for the snow.
I bought some for my E46 but never used them. I still have them on the plastic bags.
If any one think they can use them, I can offer them for the price of $0. I have no need for them that is such a high price

It might be a plus to clean behind them, but I was looking at the flaps yesterday that I put on my 540 in 1996 and there is nothing wrong with them. They still look good and there is no corrosion showing anywhere. Don't think I will be too concerned about cleaning behind the new flaps. 'Course, I don't drive much on icy streets that have been treated salt and sand. Wonder if the BMW accessories would affect the corrosion warranty - recently extended?

In the pictures, it looked like the mudflap wraps up onto the side of the car--onto the sheet metal. That's why I said it might not look as clean on a light vehicle. Am I just not seeing it properly?

Mud flaps don't touch any metal. They mount onto fenderwell which is plastic. Also, the plastic for both the fenderwell and flap looks like the type that won't accept paint. (it may be polypropylene) They come with double-sided tape to seal the edges so I don't think road debris or salt will get behind them. This also makes it tough to remove them temporarily.

The mud flaps for the E60 are hollow with drip holes in the bottom to let them dry out if they should become cracked and letr some moisture inside. Instructions are probably long gone, but will check when I get back to D in about a week.

I for one have never put much thought in the mudflap/splashgard idea but from everyones reaponse they seem like a must have. I don't think I have ever seen a thread quite like this one and I am sure mudflaps are in my future
