So damn eager to do it! I've checked it out today under my hood all good just tell me that my engine's life wont be decreased from debris!!

I tried to take mine out on my '08 535i earlier this morning and couldn't find any black filter, only found the regular orange filter. Does this mean mine doesn't have a charcoal filter?

If you scroll back a few pages you'll see my post (with pics) stating the LCI 535i's do NOT come with a charcoal filter...

I just removed mine. I saw my Airfilter looked a bit shabby. So I was looking into K&N or BMC???

Most people swear by BMC, heres a dyno comparing Stock, ITG, K&N, BMC, Helene, BMS, pulled from the e90post.com forum. Apparently there wasn't much difference between the filters but judge for yourself.

Until I see a before and after dyno report I don't believe it makes one difference.

I tend to agree. I think it's more placebo effect until we get solid dyno numbers. But I guess it couldn't hurt.

did this last night before goin to buy cigarettes.
took me like 3 minutes.
you dont need to loosen the maf though.

I do have one question. I cant seem to get the 3rd latch (the one that is not attached) onto the airbox. the area is so small i really cant figure it out. anybody got any pics of this area or knows how to insert it back?

As far as the driving effect/sound.
1. There is an obvious increase in sound from the engine. Its a mild one but still there, and can be heard on idle and when pulling away in gear.
2. There is in fact a better response that you can feel. You can feel the increase in airflow in the pedal, and get a growl coming through to the exhaust. More noticeable if you're aftermarket i think.
3. Its not an abnormal thing to have this sort of airflow and throaty sound. The airbox is kinda big on top i think which is what gives the extra growl. In either case even with the stock filter, there is better throttle response. The sound and feel in the pedal is misleading, making you think it just got faster, which I dont think it did. But for a free mod, this is a must do and how the car should have came.
