Here, lighting is a bit tricky as its dusk outside.
i wish you were around the NYC area i'd pay you to get the navi into my car i wish i had one but from what everyone is saying and from what i read its to costly
and i should just go with a tomtom

The link gave me loads of info and I think I might have found a problem. The signal in to the oem screen is not rgb as I had assumed (the E39 screen was rgb) instead it is lvds, the digital quivalent. I now neet to find a way of either converting lvds to composite or else receiving lvds directly on my carputer and displaying the iDrive as a passthrough.
Cheers for the info... much appreciated.

I tried to search how it's possible to overcome the LVDS-RGB prolem and found the converter. Here it is: http://axiomtek.com/Products/ViewProduct.asp?view=546
But in post #12 from this thread http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/347381-post12.html
the guy Giuliano says that it's better to use the LVDS LCD. But anyway, he publishes a lot of useful information.
Hope it will be helpfull to you if not too late.

dont you need to load software to use a touchscreen with a computer? im sure its the same way with your lcd screen you're trying to install....
and what do you mean by "so I can get my iDirve back" ??? if your idrive is down i dont think it has anything to do with the screen....
i think what you're trying to do is close to impossible... also the original screen is so far away from the driver's position it would be uncomfortable to use... no?
i would love to see some pics of what you're trying to do

I am looking for the wiring pinouts for the oem rgb signal going in the original screen to wire it to the rgb input of me new 7" touch screen so I can get my iDirve back. I have the wire coming from the back of the head unit but cant find the pinouts anywhere.
help much appreciated.

Most of the discussions on this thread is WAY beyond my limited comprehension abilities
.......but the display is so pretty, how can I get me one of those?
