Idrive is starting to look dated.

Craggy, did the link I gave you in post #17 <{POST_SNAPBACK}>(click the arrow) help you out at all? Just wondering...

The link gave me loads of info and I think I might have found a problem. The signal in to the oem screen is not rgb as I had assumed (the E39 screen was rgb) instead it is lvds, the digital quivalent. I now neet to find a way of either converting lvds to composite or else receiving lvds directly on my carputer and displaying the iDrive as a passthrough.

Cheers for the info... much appreciated.

Most of the discussions on this thread is WAY beyond my limited comprehension abilities .......but the display is so pretty, how can I get me one of those?

Here, lighting is a bit tricky as its dusk outside.

What about those paddles ?
Are they from M5, painted black ?
Or what else ?

Thanks, bye!

I would suggest contacting this company and seeing if they will sell you just the LVDS and CAN interface.

Haha, I am 6 foot tall so maybe it helps.

I am in the process of retrofitting iBus to this car. I have already installed an E46 paddle shift steering wheel and have an iBus controller in the carputer. I am going to connect the steering wheel buttons directly to the car pc to control track selection / volume etc without interfering with the rest of the car. This will reduce the need to reach to the touchscreen as often.
Craggy,

How did you make out? I tried a VGA/AV interface between VGA and 6.6 BMW stock screen, and the resolution supported is only 640x480 and I've got to have at least 800x640. I have a 7" Xenarc monitor that is great, but I also don't want to loose stock functions of iDrive. The Xenarc can accept analog and digital inputs, so LVD pinout info would be nice to have.

Love to compare notes with you. I have put a few carputers in, working with a show car designer with 4 distinct video sources.

Thanks,
Doug

are you doing this on your spare time? it would seem like a pretty long project....and no iDrive screen for a while could get irritating.
