Being the BMW novice that I am, I?m trying to learn if this is a viable option to consider

1. Does anyone have any good or bad experience using ceramic brake pads on BMW vehicles?
2. If so can you tell me if they are as good as the OEM pads installed on the E60?
3. How much would these pads minimize the brake dust
4. Does anyone have a brand they would recommend?

 

Until your car is out of warranty I would stick with BMW parts and service. It might void your warranty on the items you mess with.

 

And even then, I wouldn't do it.

About the brake dust, it gives me more reason to wash my car more frequently

There's a never-ending amount of discussion about this topic on RF. On my E39, I did replace the factory pads and rotors after they wore out with aftermarket products.

I used Zimmermann rotors (one of BMW's OEM manufacturers) and PBX Axxis Deluxe Plus pads. They were dust free, so much that the rear wheels with OEM pads would dust weeks ahead of the fronts with the replacements. No squeaking etc.

The complaint I had was I lost a noticeable amount of grip with the replacements.

BMW factory pad/rotor combinations are fantastic at gripping, but do so with the side-effect of dust.

It's all a compromise. Super-grip and dust, or either squealing and/or less grip and less dust.

I have no experience with ceramic pads on BMWs, but I can say that the BMW pads and rotors are designed to be replaced together, and a ceramic pad may not properly match the wear rate of the rotors and cause issues.
