I am going to get my 05 530i in the end of November.? I would like to add an aftermarket MP3 changer to the stereo system.? Do anyone know that whether there is MP3 changer and/or cable is available out there ??

If there are, is this an easy task to do ?? Do I need dealer to activate the changer or some sort ?? I know that 3 series do not need dealer's intervention to install an aftermarket CD/MP3 changer.

Thanks,

Hi Ching-Ho Cheng:

I bought my new e60 530i last April, and it is one fine BMW. the only thing it is too high tech for me, and I paid my BMW dealer here $750.00 to install me a factory BMW six disc changer and it works great! (I could have bought an 3rd party unit for $550.00, but it would had never worked right on this factory Chris Bangle unit! (BMW has got it down to a science working with the iDrive)

I wish you the best, but I would stay with BMW OEM everything for these high tech e60s!

After reading other posts regarding to the CD player to play the MP3 disc, I will wait for the future software upgrade. Once the single disc CD player can play MP3, I will pass the CD changer. Otherwise, I am thinking of installing the BMW CD changer myself and ask dealer to activate the I-Drive to control it.

I just had this work done today...and while it's expensive, it works great for me.

I ended up buying the glove CD changer for $300 on EBay. But my dealer wanted to charge me for 2 hours labor to do the install and coding ($150/hour...East Bay, CA)

Here is everything you need for the install:
Changer: 65 12 6 938 975 ($300 on EBay or $750 at the dealer...but this might include install - ask your local dealer.)
Bracket: 65 12 6 909 318 ($9)
Screws: 65 25 8 375 416 (x2) ($1 each! yow!)
Fiber Optic Cable Connector: 61 13 8 387 214 ($9)

You will need a torx #25 that is less than 2" in length to install the screws for the bracket.

This is definitely a DIY install job if you have all these parts - but BMW needs to code the I-Drive which should be a snap (but they will still charge you for an hour labor!) BMW has this all figured out - no way you can complete the job without them

BTW, here is a link to the EBay vendor: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5757980814

You did get a steal of a price, but is this a brand new BMW CD Changer with its BMW factory serial number registered with BMW of North America?

If not, I do not see how it can be covered under any BMW factory warranty?
Just a thought...I would rather pay the additional $250.00 and be able to sleep at night, knowing where it came from, and backed from BMW USA.

Hi Ching-Ho Cheng:

That might be true, but what if he didn't know? Hey, Its only money!!! (Jk LOL)

Just kidding, but seriously, I own a new 2004 e60 530i, and I struck a deal with my BMW dealer and purchased the BMW six disc cd unit to work with my iDrive, and they (installed everything using BMW OEM parts)

In essence I purchased a brand new BMW six cd changer Register with a Factory BMW Warranty for: $550.00 + 150.00 for BMW installation (iDrive), total: $700.00, and my cd changer is about 1 year old now, it plays BMW great!!

I have never been sorry not knowing where it came from, and my BMW six disc's changer is BMW Registered and backed by BMW USA, and not some 3rd party company trying to make a dollar off eBay! (when trading on eBay be very, very careful! Know who your buying from? And checked them out! They can promise you anything in writing with their own warranty, but remember they can be here online today, and gone tomorrow!)

And most of the time they only advice and help from the authorities: you should had known better and Buyer beware!

Your about to buy a brand new BMW, (good for you!), and unlike most new cars, the new BMW e60's, forward are some of the finest hi-tech cars in today's market place, I know I have one, there is nothing like it! Don't cheapen it and buy 3rd party companies off eBay, try to keep everything on it, BMW OEM!

Don't be like me trying to save a buck or two, and be sorry later, that you did! See I saved (I thought!) about $2000.00 by buying some new Replica wheels for my new 2004 BMW 530i from a ebay online company.

Now I am not going to lie to you and tell you they a great, because they are not! But those BMW Replica wheels looked BMW Great at first! But then I quickly noticed they are not BMW quality! This company on eBay gave me a warranty, that sounded good, but the only thing this online outfit is not doing the right and honest thing for their customer, it us hard for me to get them to do the right thing and honor their warranty!

Now I realize we BMW owners can be very picky, (that is why we drive new BMWs' for), and will not settle for compromise, even these Replica wheel I bout might look good to some other people, but not to me! Now I am forced to pay $2000.00 for a set of new factory BMW OEM 18inch M wheels, and that is what I soul had done in the first place!

In conclusion: Ching-Ho Cheng: if you choose to go the eBay route for your cd changer for your new 2005 BMW, I wish you the very best, and I do hope this company will do you right, but always remember: Buyer Beware!

Sincerely,
Presley348

Thanks for your advise and sharing your experience with us. I didn't say that I will buy the changer from ebay. I buy a lot of things from ebay, so I know the risk. I need to know the information about the installation and parts needed to put on the CD changer. I will let dealer to do the coding.

Still I-Drive complicate the system a lot. For 3-series, you just install the CD changer (not necessary the BMW brand) with the adapter cable, then all set to listen to the music. I-Drive make us to go back to dealer for all different things. That's how car make making their big money nowaday!
