I am planning to drop in the K&N air filter into my 530 this week. I already removed the charcoal filter.

I saw several threads of people complaining of car stalls after putting in the new filter.

I that a common problem and is there any way to avoid the car stall ... wouldn't like that to happen in freeway traffic!

Thanks

Some folks even got that symptom just by removing the Charcol filter. Some have engine light come on, etc. Has to do with the sensors catching up with the new facts of life (air or more of it). I think you should be ok after driving car for awhile and the new levels are calculated over time and conditions. BUt there is a rare case or two where no amout\nt of time cleared it up. I don't which engines (V10, V8, I6 or I6TT) what but those guys had to revert to OEM for it to run right.

I have the charcoal filter out and the K&N in -- never any stalling when I switched over.

I would suggest when after you install it to start up the car let it run in the driveway for a few minutes and see how it behaves... if it starts to run rough slowly creep it out the driveway... and then drive the car around your neighborhood at low rpms... dont strain the car let it get use to the new air flow... drive it for a few miles and the take it out local streets of < 50mph and drive then proceed to highway...

Yes thats excessive and probably not necessary... but do somthing along those lines and I'm guessing your car should be able to get use to the new air flow...

What you're trying to avoid is to install the filter and the go for a run on the highway... break it in slowly...

from what I have gathered from all the air filter replacement posts K&N seems to be a good mod ... better airflow and 'maybe' slight gain in performance...

The filter has excessive oil. Use CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner every time you clean or change your air filter. Don't over oil K&N filter.
I've been using K&N filter minus charcoal prefilter with no problem whatsoever.

Probably not... but it really Depends on your dealer. some dealers dont care, like the one I take my car to. Previously with my MINI I changed it to a Cold Air Intake and it was VERY obvious but they didnt care. Some dealer will be upset so it all depends. You should call your dealer and just speak with any advisor, dont say who you but just ask if you were to change it to a COLD AIR INTAKE would they have any problems with not warranting the car or refusing service... CAI is another step over just changing a filter... so if they're ok with that they'll be totally fine with a filter change...

+1 with my 530. no problems with the k&n without the charcoal filter whatsoever.

and +1 with rizbel about not over-oiling it. you should be fine.
