Wait a minute..... this should work on M-ASK (No Navigation) cars right?

Only the 2nd picture of the iDrive shows any hint of iPod integration. The other pictures seem to be showing a MP3 CD playing, because of the root(back) selection in the top left corner.

Hands on with the iPod iDrive interface on a 7 Series over at E90post. Should expect something similar on our E60s.

OK, I do not own an Ipod so I might be missing the whole point, but why the heck is everybody (BMW plus you guys) focusing on Ipod connectivity. If I read the pressrelease correct they uploaded/integrated their own music manager in the carPC (we used to talk with BMW on partnering on this using our www.dajukebox.com software as a starting point, so I know that they were working on this), so why the limitation to an Ipod and not offer a generic USB interface able to handle all music on any HDD/USBsticks/etc.??????

This is a huge limitation prone for expensive upgrades over the years as technology develops. Maybe that is the reason BMW have gone this way. To be able to offer an upgrade a $300-500 every couple of years??

I'm with Bedford. Kind of hard to get excited about something that will likely be of no use in my 2004...
Good News, the ipodyourbmw site was updated and it says 2002+ 5 will be compatible. I would hate to lose the CD changer though.

I hope your right about the compatibility, but I just went to the ipodyourbmw site and what comes up on my screen is not updated, nor does the official press release say anything about this. The press release says the original iPod adaptor will continue to be available for 2002 and later X3, X5, Z4 and earlier 3 series. Nothing about all E60s being compatible...

Halleluiah

Integration here we come ? and to think I was almost about to order the aux installation.

Fortunately, I had based the iTunes organization of my gen 5 iPod around a playlist ? whether it be a Johnny Cash concert or an Opera.

I put my self on the wait list with my dealer today.

Huh? It should be a retrofit for your car. It will plug into the CD changer slot in the glove box.
I sure don't see that mentioned on the web site. Link?

If you click on the "Compatibility Chart" link, there is a note at the bottom saying something to the effect that the 6 disc changer can be removed to connect the ipod interface... It is very vague though, and as I noted earlier, the ipodyourbmw web site is not updated to include this new interface, it is still talking about the old interface for X3, X5, Z4 and older 3 series.

If that is true, then they had better give a hefty credit for the changer unit. Perhaps make it an even swap.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth it at this point. I'm not the kind of guy who has loads and loads of music on his iPod. I could -easily- get by with 6 MP3 CDs in the changer. I'd need to upgrade my iPod (something I don't really need) - so let's say that costs me ~$300. The cost of the connector and install could easily be that much again. If it kills my Sirius, that's a deal breaker - and knowing BWM's track record with iPod connectors, they don't generally "fix" incompatibilities - they take a stab at a small portion of the market and then let the product wilt on the vine.

I'd almost rather wait for the MP3 changer and retrofit -that-. Or do an AUX in and wait for AVRCP.
