Why do you hate it ?
Cost to BMW of one crappy connector and two feet of wire - about one euro/one dollar/70 UK pence
Price charged by BMW - about two hundred times the cost, mostly in unnecessary reprogramming labour.
Cost to me of ipod connector solution about 12 dollars/euros about 8 pounds.
Fitting cost nil - carphone installer did it for free.
Guess who's going to get the next installation job.

Dont get too exicted, it will not work if you have either a 6 disc changer or Sirius Satellite. YOU HAVE TO REMOVE 6 DISC CHANGER &/OR DISABLE SIRIUS......THAT STINKS... The I-Drive will work however just watch to video at http://www.ipodyourbmw.com/.

I won't miss sirius. I have not paid for it since my year expired in september. I kinda miss some of the music and the comedy, but the sound quality BLOWS. I want my 30GB ipod in the car.
by the way, my nephew just got a new scion, not the cracker box but the coupe that looks like a celica, and it had a real ipod interface on it. Pretty cool and sounds great. As great as something can sound on a japanese el cheapo system.

If he's anything like me, because it's a cheap and nasty solution, wildly overpriced that provides minimal finctionality. The aux connector simply would not reliably produce sound as it's not a rigid, latched connection. The weight of the wire itself was enough to dislodge it. Mine lasted 3 days before being replaced by an ipod connector based solution which is still crappy but at least provides a reliable link between ipod and car, at line level. This is fed under the central trim to allow the ipod to sit in the central console.

Mine was fitted free though (as part if the negotiations on my purchase price) and I have dramatically improved the sound quality by following advice posted by my530i on this forum.
I bought a simple 'proclip' mount and my ipod sits in a purpose built felt lined cradle on the center console where I can easily reach the clickwheel.
So - out of the box - crap - but it CAN be made to work REALLY WELL.
