Finally, the auxiliary input does not show up in the "next entertainment source" option. When cyclying through inputs with the steering wheel button, it skips the aux input.

just had mine installed: Difeo BMW in Tenafly, NJ. Went in at 9am. Part number ends in 502, as previously mentioned. Part cost $86, labor $180.
Warning!!
They got the car at 9am, installed the adapter and connection by 12.30pm. Then, they had to begin reprogramming functions. This went on all night, then the next morning, then I had to return the rented car around noon, so I went to the dealership and waited until 5.30pm!! The car reprogramming took over 24 hours. Then, they had to initialize, test for another hour. I did not leave the dealership until 6.30pm the next day.
So, if you are having yours done, be sure to:
1. bring copy of the installation TIS (which they happily used)
2. get rental car right away. don't wait three hours and then have them offer you a rental when they realize they have to reprogram. or, get a free loaner a few weeks in advance.
3. don't go back until they call to say it's ready
Please note: the aux input option is ALWAYS visible in the selections, right after CD as previously indicated. The auxiliary input jack is a dumb jack - it has no detection capabilities. It just pipes the signal. Fortunately, the input worked immediately after initialization. There were no issues with reliability. I was updated to version 13.3, so no v. 14 needed. Finally, the auxiliary input does not show up in the "next entertainment source" option. When cyclying through inputs with the steering wheel button, it skips the aux input.
Audio quality is excellent, very happy to have paid for the option. Worth every penny. Now my iPod is a constant companion. The trick now is to find a good iPod holder. Incidentally, highly recommend the Belkin iPod adapter as it means a single, clean wire connection from the iPod to the cig. lighter jack under the glove compartment. From there, another short audio cord goes into the glove compartment to the input jack.

I am getting more and more interested installing the aux.
I was contemplating installing it where Iceman did...however I was wondering if
mwsu545i could post some pics of his installation.
We don't get here a cig lighter at the glove box.
TIA
Andy.

I payed 2 hrs labor at a total of $192.00 plus $39.95 for the part. They used the part for a E39. Tech told me it is the same cable.. That was at my dealer which is about 45 mins outside NYC in Upper Bergen County NJ...

Andy,
it was just the standard cig lighter under the glove box, not inside. I'm sure you have it standard as well. no camera, sorry!
