Got my AUX retrofit cable in the mail today and the tag on the cable says E46/39 on it. I was looking at the E60 retrofit install and the parts look the same except for 2 additional twist ties. I'm not 100% certain that the end plug is the same between the two parts however.

Just want to make sure I don't get any surprises when I make my appointment and have all the equipment ready. This cable also has has the mod done to it, do you think the dealer is going to notice or refuse to install since it is modded?

Thanks!

Hi

The AUX retrofit kit is the same for E46/E38/E39/53/ & E60-61 aswell as for the E9x series.

I don't know what "mod" to the cabel you are talking about ?

The car will have to be coded at BMW after mounting the AUX kit , in order to get it work properly ( open for this function in the M-ASK or CCC ), i mean it is code : +KAUX that have to be added to the cars WIN SA/FA list.

Make sure you have the right part number for the E60. The wiring harness connector is different.

As for the mod, you can put a heat shrink tubing on it.

thanks for the info, now I'm nervous since my cable said e39 on it!

If the parts are different why are the retrofit kit #,s exactly the same?

After reading the instructions again it looks like the wires are removed from the existing plug and then plugged into a plug that should already be at the back of the m-ask unit. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your very useful input, just what I was looking for. Do you know if the multi CD changer loses it's functionality after the \aux input upgrade?

This is INCORRECT. The kit will work fine as the wires must be removed to be included into the existing wiring harness.

No change to the CD Changer. Once you get the AUX coded at the dealer you will have the same functions as before with the ADDITION of the "AUX" function.

I'm still loving this mod! make sure to remove the resistors on cable before installing so you dont loose base. Internet radio sounds so killer on this!
