Went on a long road trip through Atlanta today feeling pretty brave with my Passport 9500ci checking the roads around me. If you are not familiar with this detector, it detects several bands of radar, has front and rear laser detector and GPS based database of speed traps as well. Had lots of normal sort of saves but one of them the State patrol had a trap set for drivers with radar detectors it seemed to me.

Got an advance warning from a radar unit and checked my speed. Just as you would expect the road to be clear because you just passed the cop car, we came over a hill and got hit by a laser from a car hidden deep on the shoulder back in the grass and weeds. So the trap was hit the drivers with a radar unit and just when they think the coast is clear, hit 'em with a laser.

A couple miles later, I got hit again from a rear laser and looked in my mirror and saw the patrol car on the bridge I just went under. Passed his chase car a few moments later giving someone a ticket - felt like I was running a gauntlet.

Sounds about right for the typical "deep south" sting operations. They always seem to work in a trio....especially around the ATL area.

here in Michigan state police are very crafty....but not to that extent. damn. thats tough!

i want to get a radar detector...but ive slowed down a lot compaired to my younger days...if i buy one ill just become a full-on lead foot again!
