My Ride: 2008 550i Titanium Silver M-Tech Sport, nav, HUD, comfort seats, comfort access, HD radio, Sat radio, folding mirrors
I have a July '07 build 550 with Nav and a whole bunch of other goodies and I'm wondering if it can be coded to allow the downloading of Google info into the navigation system. I know I missed the "blessed" manufacturing start date to have this ability by a few months so I'm wondering if me not having this capability is due to a hardware limitation or a "marketing" limitation. If I had the same month build of an X6, I would have this feature. Can my vehicle be coded to perform this function?
P.S.: I do have BMW Assist and they can download the data into my car--I just want to cut out the "middle man".
P.P.S.: I hope this is in the right forum.
Thanks.

But while you wait for more information try to send the google map to your BMW and see if it connects for you!

I'd like to add-on with some questions .. not meaning to thread jack.. some stuff I'd be interested in knowing if it's possible too is:
- Change triple blink to five blinks or make it a configurable number via iDrive
- Make it so when I hit the heated seat button that it starts at the lowest setting instead of the highest setting and works its way up
- Have the car automatically turn on the heating steering wheel and heated seats (at lowest setting) if the temperature is less than 45 degrees outside

Yea, but you guys in Europe (the U.K. is part of Europe, right?) always seem to be way ahead of us in the States in deploying technology. I'm just wondering if the hardware is different between your car and mine. But, it would seem, if the Assist operator can download directions into my nav then, it should be possible. Here's where it gets a little curious--I actually tried to send a map using Google and, it acknowledged that it successfully sent it to my car. This could only be due to the fact I have a valid Assist account. However, I saw on another forum where someone tried to send an email to a car that didn't have this capability and the response back from Google was that the car to which the message was attempting to be sent was incapable of receiving the map. Go figure!
