Has anybody proven the effectiveness of this CAI using a dyno or A/F ratio reading or G-Meter???

I have been schooled that BMW's air boxes in the E60 are designed in a way to create Pressure for the filter to suck from and this CAI looks as though it will lose all of that pressure.

The stock airbox actually has feeding tubes from behind the front air dam that provides cool air and this AFE CAI appears to get more air from the engine bay then the front air dam???

you guys want to fill me in on this???
I'm with you Jet. VT vehemently claims that I am a Doubting Thomas hehehe

People who have it swear by it as witnessed by the owner of this thread, but I am still on the sideline. I understand it does provide more sound power at the crank tho.

Of course it will add sound, when you take away a sealed enclosure for an open filter element. But where exactly is the air coming from that would provide more air than the stock feeding tubes?

Well, I attempted the install tonight. I got pretty far (removal of stock air box, housing to airbox, removal of MAF sensor, etc.). But then I hit a bump in the road. I found the screw for the clamp to remove the old housing from the throttle body, but have no idea how to get at it so I can remove it. It's buried down deep and behind a few hoses. I tried to get at it, but was worried I would drop my screwdriver and then I'd be really screwed.

That said, I put everything back as it was and have decided to take it to my local guy (where LI-M5 takes his car and where I had my springs installed) and have them do it. It'll cost me a few bucks to have them do it, but at least I have nothing to worry about.

Hoping to have this done some time this week...

These are good points.

I need to call a Master Tech at BMW tomorrow and find out the skinny. The one I spoke with at Crevier said "BMW doesn't support AFE" and she was unfamiliar with it. She tried to pitch me the Dinan CAI but it's much more expensive. Based on what I heard from everyone here about the AFE, I decided to go that route. Now after having it for 12 days, I can't honestly say if I've lost any performance from previous.

I will say the sound is amazing, but I don't know about power loss? I really don't know without a Dyno/GMeter reading.

VT-ECF---your takes are definitely requested.
