HOLY F_CK_N SHITE!!!!!!
I had it installed at D2technik in Alhambra by Will. This thing sounds absolutely amazing.
Right out of the box you can hear the beautiful sound at 3000rpms and up. It sounds like a roaring wide open throttle growl. Not ricey at all. Just sick euro luxury growl.
And performance is improved. I mean this. I didn't have it dynoed before, but with my remap I know exactly how fast my car was before and now it's even faster. Noticeable improvement in torque at the same time as the sound kicks in.
Guys in all honesty, I give a major thumbs up to this mod. Thanks to VT and ECF for their recommendations.
They also told me Supersprint's dual exhaust will fit in the M-Tech Diffuser/bumper without any custom cutting. The guys at D2technik said they were really surprised at the sound of the stock exhaust on the 08 550 and couldn't honestly tell me whether the Supersprint Dual exhaust would be a worthwhile mod over the stock exhaust. Not too much of a difference unless I went to a quad.
Fight On!

I'm so effin jealous... I can't even find anything for my 2004 545i aside from the Dinan CAI. Anyone in the DFW area modified the AFE for the 545i?

I too have an AFE on my 530 mate and it is one roaring loud good time. Just the other night I got the now common comment from another car that my car sounded insanely awesome, and that is a quote. I have gotten so many comments from other dudes on the road at stop lights who hear my car and tell me how amazing it sounds. Makes me smile-afe rules

VT shoe horned the AFE into his 2005 545i... So I know that it is possible. VT you may want to chime in with your feedback.

The neat thing about bmw inline 6 engines is with the AFE it is actually louder than the v8 providing you do not have a super loud exhaust note. My mate here has a v8 545 and has the same set up as I and mine is actually a more aggressive sound with the intake. May have to do with a bit larger cone filter but I am not sure.
Either way they sound great, ESPECIALLY through tunnels!

This is the first stock exhaust for the 550i that sounds really good stock. The D2technik guys told me this is the best sounding AFE CAI for a dual exhaust they've heard. (without after market exhaust).
I've been driving it around for the last 2.5 hours thru Pasadena and SGV. The looks on people's faces is all you need to know. My car is now a certified EURO BEAST. And thCane best thing about it, it purrs like a kitten when I pull into my subdivision and garage. Quiet as a mouse under 3000rpms in low gear.
Just love it.
