Are there any chips out there that will increase the hp/acceleration for a 2005 545i? I keep hearing about some vishnu chip but from what I've found out it is only for the 335i... is there anything for the V8 - e60?

Yes. It's not a chip but a flash reprogramming of the ECU. It will cost $400 or more for small gain in HP for non-turbo cars. The turbo cars (535) have the greatest gain. Search this and the performance forums and you will find out what you want to know.

So pretty much it's a waste to repgram/re-map the ECU unless it's a turbo?

If you are looking for pure horsepower gains the answer is yes, its a waste of $$. The factory tunes these normally aspirated 8's pretty well out of the chute. The remap usually makes the car a more "driveable" by remapping the power curve so you get more torque earlier in the rev band, removes the speed governor and advances the redline a bit as well. You do pick up some hp that you can feel SOP but nothing dramatic usually 8-10 hp max and that's usually in conjunction with a CAI and larger diameter MAF (a la Dinan).
Turbos in general tend to see significantly more HP gains because remaps get more aggressive on boost vs stock factory settings (more air, more power) as a starting point.
Hope it helps.

The more you squeeze out of an engine to more its gonna cost. Do check out that link to the V8 Turbo....but I'll be jealous if you get one

just had the M done .. and again, v small hp gain, but you can really tell the diff.
obviously turbo engines are going to be worth every penny (cent), but wouldn't say that NA wasn't worth it.
