Vegas, your research is corresponding on M6 wheels (ET17)
The correct style 167 wheels for E60 (M5-ET28) just like 166s, is here:

Ok, what am I missing here. It sounds like if you get the M167 wheels as spec'd for an M6 (with ET17), then you wouldn't need any spacers, and it would work on near perfect. Wouldn't that mean that's the better setup to purchase? Or am I thinking about it wrong?

Okay, I did enough research here about the 167s and 166s and their offsets.
167s have two offset for the rear wheel: ET:17(M6) and ET:28(M5). Most people when they order 167s, they get it with the ET:28 offset. If you're lucky and purchase 167s off a M6, you'll have the ET:17(M6) offset. http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=...hg=36&fg=15
166s have one offset for the rear wheel: ET:28(M5).

Hi Friends,
in just 6 weeks the weather here in germany will be nice, for my 167 wheels.
I am going with the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo Tires (OEM on the new Porsche 911)
245/35 19 front ET12
275/30 19 rear ET17
I have the 167 M6 wheels with offset 12 in the front and offset 17 in the rear.
My car is lowerd with the KW V2 Coilovers. I hope there will be no rubbing issues...
Pictures will follow....
