Hi guys,

so here is a collection of the above mentioned wheels on my car - yes i have had all these on my car - crazy but sadly true. I am glad that I have a tyre dealer who is nice to buy back the old set with 2-3k km on them. So the history is:

bought the car with 124 summer tires - consequently also bought winter shoes with 124:

Next was to trade in the 124 winter shoes for 135 winter shoes - just never got to like the 124 wheels, so I was now destined to change the summer shoes too now that i switched from 124 to 135 in winter:

So during winter i was looking around for a set of 19" for summer. i obviously came across the 172 - bought a set in January but never put them on - summer wheels come on in march or april. during jan, feb, e60.net freaks in the bay area were mounting more and more of the 166 wheels. i fell in love with them, so i returned my 172 to the tire dealer and got myself a set of 166 - obviously i had to pay the difference. so in march i mounted the 166:

Somehow the 166 never convinced me - i got loads of looks in town because the car looked impressive but i never felt convinced. soon, people were mounting the 167 and more were also available on ebay. it was two weeks ago i found a set on ebay in germany - picked them from him personally, drove to the tire dealer, got a new set of dunlops maxx sport (till now the other 19s were with conti cs2 and conti cs2 vmax respectively) and drove back to vienna. The wheels themselves are from the m6, so with offset 12 and 17 respectively. The 166 needed spacers of 13mm at the back because of the 28 offset, but the 167 with offset 17 need no spacers. have a look yourself:

otherwise, here are some evening photos (sorry if not focused):

So, my opinion on the 167 - the wheels look extremely small - they just look as small as the 18" 135 for some silly reason. i guess it is because of the 5 spokes or because of the bi-colour effect. the wheels are really lighter (i lifted them obviously) but i don't think one can tell a difference while driving. otherwise, dunlops are very quiet. i had dunlops rft on my 124 first, and i swore i would never buy dunlops again, but on the day i wetn to my tire dealer, he only had 19" dunlops left, so i had no choice but to take those. surprisingly, very quiet - am pretty impressed.

honestly, i am not sure whether i would again switch to the 167 - somehow the 166 just make the car more solid and bigger, the 167 just look a bit small, specially in the rear, but this could be simply because the 166 were mounted with 13 mm spacers which resulted the wheels to stick out 2 mm more than the 167 with no spacers - i really don't know.

so in total, i have driven about 5000 km for different sets of tires - my tire dealer is about 500 km away from in germany (much much cheaper than in austria making the 1000km drive worth it). i still don't know what i like, but the 167 have not really convinced me as much as what i saw here in the forum...

your thoughts???

greetings from austria

rumman

Ya I seen the #166 and #167 both in person on a E60 and yes the #167s are smaller visually. I was confused at first thinking they were 18" replicas or somthing... but later got confirmation that they were BMW OEM M6 wheels. It must be the way the wheels are colored and how the spokes are placed... They're a little dark. Looks like too much brake dust on it. They look really well in pictures on a Black E60 but in person I prefer the #166s

to be honest - no brake dust at all - all the alloys have just been washed this afternoon... they just look small!

In person I prefer the 166s over 167s becouse they look a litle too small. Yes the 167s looks great whith dark coulors but on a Silvergrey it looks small

both 166 & 167 really make the car more agressive than it already is... nice choice with the 167 but 166 definitely look way better on silvergrey.
