08 535i Blowoff valve
#11
Do you have the link to this thread, I couldn't find it on e90forum.com? I'm curious on how a blow off valve can cause the turbo to spool more than what it was intended to. Usually faster turbo spool can be associated with a boost leak or some type of boost controller, normally a manual one.
A BOV doesn't do any of that. I can understand the car not liking a BOV because it doesn't see air being recirculated into it but catastrophic engine/turbo failures makes me go hmmm...

Let me warn you , on the E90 forums there are some Horror stories of people running Blow off valves that have caused catastrophic Engine/ turbo failures on the N54's. They run in the 12-15k just to get he motor replaced... out of your pocket. They can cause the turbos to spin well above what they are designed for. The turbos on the N54 are kinda small and cast in to the block , if they go , they also can damage the block too...
I would advise against them...
But I would say it's up to you.

Sorry my first post was incorrect, I saw it on the BMW CCA forums which went to another web add, etc, you all get the idea..... And the motor is 26k to get replaced not 12-15k.... Including 50 n hours of labor...OUCH

the picts are on page 4 , as is this quote from BMW NA rep
"A guy from BMW NA said these failures seem to be caused by the installation of aftermarket blow-off valves, which eliminate the stock recirculated divertor valves. Apparently Mitsu compressor wheels are liable to burst running just a little harder then they're intended to be. What quality..."
So there you go...

i think the guy got shafted. CEL should've come on years before the turbo went kaboom. is this an isolated incident?

Apparently the "Juice Box" and Aftermarket BOV are a No No on N54's. LOL
One of my friends in ATL had a VW R32 like mine , and had the motor replaced by VW because they could not fix a never ending cel light and permanent Limp Home Mode.
The BLOCK was 12,500, with nothing in it or on it... The bill VW ate on a 31k car was 20,000+ to replace the motor, AWD, and trany. That was due to there not being any Un-registered 04 r32's left. Nice Huh?
