I'm averaging 35mph with mixed/overall driving, but can get over 40mph when cruising on the motorway.

Mine is always 19.9mpg. It cost me $60 at the pump yesterday. I don't know what's going to happen if I have 550 in the future. It's going to be more than that.

Well I suggest that you try using all of your gears to reach a reasonable speed, well over 40mph on the motorway I bet...

It should be closer to 50mpg, unless you cruise at 95mph Seriously, I whack mine in 6th and can cruise between 70 and 85mph and get 45mpg no problems It's round town where the steptronic suffers in mpg terms...

Why would having a 550i cost you more to fill up? You may be filling up more frequently but it's the size of the tank that determines fill-up cost.

My 520i is doing 16.2 L/100km and 1 liter of oil / 3000 km . Well that is what I call sporty driving .
