So what was unplugged?

 

Fiber optic cable was not plugged into the new harness. It was left in the old harness which is not plugged into the radio/cd player any longer.

 

Nice, it's always something silly like that.

 

With this system.... firstly if you want to play music from a USB source, will it utilise the iDrive or do you override it? same question goes for the reversing camera...from what i've read, you switch away from the idrive options entirely while the carlink is in use - Rear camera sounds a great idea, but if you have both sets of PDC's, then if i read this right, with the carlink...you can only use one or the other

 

Actually xcarlink does not have a USB port. My car does not have PDC so a back up camera will be a tremendous upgrade. I have not installed it yet but from what I understand it will automatically overrides idrive or any AV connection that might be playing when you are in reverse. I can? t tell you how it interacts with PDC. I finally used the tomtom app on a ?real? trip last night and I was very happy with it. The graphics are great, maps are accurate and I was able to listen to Pandora and take phone calls while tomtom was running. You can also play music from your own personal library with the tomtom app.

I think as it overides, then i'd have either the PDC or the cam...ideal for me is to have the cam in the split screen aswell as the PDC screen.... think i'll have to look for a BM module

 

I think I saw someone had done a split screen but I think you need a 8.8 in display for that....not 100% on that. Do a little research on YouTube.

 

I believe the modmynav.com multimedia adapter can do an overlay of the PDC screen on top of the camera screen.

 

If I have pro nav then i'll have 8.8 won't i?

My main aim is to have USB or SD card functionality - nice to haves are the reversing cam and DVD (although I wont pay extra for DVD as cant see me using it that often)
