There is not just the engine needs to be replaced, but also the trans might be bad too. Water can get in the trans from the vent on top and cause the cluthes to separate. I would just pass on the car.

Not sure about this claim. I agree the engine would most likely need to be replaced, but for the transmission, I would expect a good tranny flush should take care of any potential water problem. The experience I've had with this is having an E46 that took a bath and over 5 years later the tranny still works. When it took a bath, the ECU was fried and had to be replaced and installed by the dealer. The tranny does have an issue especially when it gets cold where it takes a while for the tranny to transfer power to the wheels when starting off. I have never done a tranny flush on i and I'm thinking that should clear that problem, but I digress...

The only advice I'd give to the OP is make sure if you do get the car, you treat it as a project vehicle and be ready to spend lots of time and money on it. If you can live with taking a loss on the purchase price of the vehicle, then have fun with it. If not, steer clear of it.
