Relatively little for Finnish or Alpine standards
Relatively little by UK standards too, though some is forecast overnight!

I drove my Xdrive in the snow for the first time this week. I have to say, it was very impressive. I attempted to make it lose traction, but before the rear could break free the car took over and I was going straight. It is very different from a fixed 4WD system.

The system can also be very comforting in a hard driving rain and helping to deal with hydroplaning.

Absolutely agree. 530xi hold it's character in all weather conditions. I have driven/owned many AWD/4WD's and this one is outstanding.

I am surprised BMW is not offering the x option in the UK. I would imagine there would be a market.

Man, I'm all excited to get some snow here in NY and test out my car in the snow. Only concern is that I have yet to swap my RFT's for Dunlop M3's. Have any of you guys driven your xi's with the stock RFT's that come with the car? If so, how did it handle?

And lo and behold, they got it right. All of 2 inches! Navigable (?) even with a 2WD 535d station with RFT. As long as one takes it easy. Still made my train this morning.

I can't think of any technical reasons why the X Drive is not available in RHD. If you look at a cutaway drawing, the front propshaft is offset to the left, so if there is room for a propshaft, diff and steering gear at the left hand side, then there would appear to be no technical reason for not offering X Drive to right handers. I think it is purely down to marketing saying it is not worthwhile.

Cheers, Stewart.

Will take my E60 in for the first service next Tuesday.

Have arranged a test drive for a E90 325xiA.

Now when it's cold and really snowy, it will be really interesting.

Have not driven a 4WD since some 4-5 years ago in the summer with a 325iXA E46.

(Note the model markings!)

I can assure you that you will be excited about the 325Xi. I?m overwhelmed with my new car

BTW - winter has arrived here now. - 5 deg C and SNOW on the roads. It?s FUN

Just remember, when you testdrive the 325xi, the stopping distance is the same as on a 2WD....................

No, it's a lot more, since you'll be going faster and the car is heavier...

Stewart - you are one of the early birds to this forum, but this was only your second post. Do you visit the forum at all and just not post or have you been MIA for the last 2 years?
