I've never owned a BMW before but am hoping to buy a used 535d very soon. I would not consider buying one without HUD. If I was buying new then it does change things but I would buy the option if I had the money. That's just my opinion but each to their own.

sometimes a good deal cant be passed up and you might not get HUD or headlight washers or whatever little option you may have a fetish for. i think it is funny that people are so adamant about never buying one without HUD. you guys have got to be kidding... never? I will sell my brand new 535 for $150 dollars, oh... it doesnt have HUD, i guess nobody wants it. nevermind.

FIRST - as pointed out, when spending this much, I think getting the exact car you want is important. To me, not having something I really wanted, even if I got a great deal, would bother me down the road. To others, price is more important.

SECOND - I did not have it on my 550 but have it on my M5. Honestly? I probably won't order it again - it doesn't do much for me and as pointed out, with poloraized sunglasses it is gone from vision. Yes, even with NAV I don't think it helps that much. So if you have never had it, then you won't miss it and if you are like me once you have had it, you may not "need" it again. Agreed however that most people love it. (PS - I'd spend the money on Active Steering over HUD).

THIRD - Forget about retrofitting it. That is a SILLY suggestion and if you look into it, you will realize that it will cost a TON (yes, anything is possible - if you have enough cash).

Yes I'd buy your car for $150 but then immediately sell it to buy a car with HUD and the other options I want :-D

HUD is near the bottom of my "gotta have list". If I wanted a certain car, whether or not it had HUD would not affect my decision to purchase the car.
