Go for the one that has the most options and color combo that you like. In real world driving, the 545 vs 550 isn't a big difference. I wanted a 550 but then I found a 545 with heads up display, logic 7, navi, active steering, sport seats, SMG tranny, side and rear sunshade perfect color combo and more, just too may opetions in one car to give up for a few HP that I may or may not feel in the butt dyno or really make use of on the street.

I owned both the 545 and the 550, the 550 really isn't all that much faster but the difference is definitely noticeable. I wouldn't go for a 550 purely for the performance, but out of the two it is the better car and is the car I'd recommend. That said, the 550's torque is more noticeable than the extra horsepower, and it does make for a better drive.

Both are V8s, 550i is a little faster but this is a giant sedan and not exactly a track/drag inspired machine. Some light mods to your 545i and you can pull harder on a dyno (so I've heard through the grapevine).
That being said, go with the one that is in better shape, is better optioned, has lower miles, and has the color combination you like best.
