I need help trying to decided what winter tires to put on my 545i6 this winter. I had the conti winter contacts (710's i think) and they were horrible. I got stuck numerous times.
I had blizzaks on my old 528 and they were awesome. My dealer rep told me they are using dunlops this year.
Let me know what your running and how its worked out for ya. Going to need to make a decision before it starts coming down wednesday

What size are you planning to run? Planning a wheel & tire combo in 17" or replacing tires on your current wheels? IMHO TireRack has the best objective survey and test data for performance tires. And if you shop/buy thru the link in my signature you'll get additional cash rebates.

Or did you catch this member's sale ?

I've already got a 17 asa winter set up from tire rack I believe they are 205/50/17 The contis on them are just getting worn and I cant stand them.

Im just looking for someone with a 545 or 550 who hasn't gotten stuck yet and see what they are running.

The conti TS830P is a massive improvement on previous 7xx generation conti tyres, but if you have been put off conti from your past experience then Blizzaks still get top ratings.

225/50/17 is the standard BMW sizing

I have 225/50R17's on my e60, and I run Michelin X-Ice Xi2's. They test as the top "Studless Ice & Snow" winter tire on Tire Rack. I'm extremely impressed with them. Compared to my previous Bridgestones, I feel like I'm driving a snowmobile. Not only is the traction and handling amazing, but they are extremely smooth and quiet on pavement for a winter tire (far better than my summer Dunlop RFTs).

If you spend your winters driving on cold pavement and very little snow or ice, then the "Performance Winter" category is the way to go (Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 for example). They aren't as good on snow or ice as the studless ice & snow category, but they will give crisper handling in the cold when conditions are good. If you drive a lot in new snow, compressed rough and slippery snow or ice, then the studless ice & snow category is definitely the way to go. They have better grip and are more compliant, giving a better ride and better handling versus a stiffer performance tire that will be harsher and experience more deflection and twitchiness in rough conditions.

Here's the link to the Tire Rack rating for both Performance Winter and Studless Ice & Snow tires.
