Hi all,

I purchased a 2005 545i in January of 2009. I immediately noticed a whistling sound above 60 mph which eventually drove me insane.
I tried taping all the seams, the sunroof and eventually the windows but nothing helped. I ended up taking the car to a windshield replacement shop in the Bay Area and the manager said that the windshield was loose on the top left-hand side (driver's side) which is where all the noise seemed to come from.

I got the windshield replaced at All Star Glass in San Jose and now there is blessed silence above 60 mph. It cost me a paltry $100 since I had a glass deductible buyback on my insurance policy. The windshield is made by Saint Gobain Sekurit hence no OEM logo but I can't see any issues so far. (no pun intended )

Next up, my electrical systems started going crazy - every 2-3 days I would get a new fault indicator: TPM warning, Active Steering fault, Emissions Warning which drove me to a state indicative of incipient insanity. In addition, everytime I tried to access my Navigation system, it would state the the drive was not available which made my blood boil. My independent BMW mechanic said $450 to replace and register the battery which was disheartening to say the least.

After reading several posts on this forum, I went to Batteries Plus, got a Werker 95R replacement battery for $179.99 + $9.98 for installation. The manager's name is Neill Dorward and he was extremely helpful. It took him 10 minutes to remove the old battery and replace it with the new battery. I fired up the car, got the expected Active Steeering fault and reset it by turning the wheel to the right (all the way) then to the left and finally back to center. Switched off the car, fired'er up again and voila - no more warnings. It has been a week and I am amazed at the transformation. The car's runs smooth, no warnings and feels much more responsive when I accelerate. The handling has improved by an order of magnitude since I suspect that my terminally-ill battery was causing all manner of issues when I was driving which probably played havoc with the Active Steering.

All I can say is : This forum and its members rock!!!!!!!! Thank you for all the posts that saved my sanity and restored my faith in BMW.
