I'll be willing to bet a 530i may get 2-3mpg in the same situation. The v8 torque/fun factor definately outweigh this. I'm not bashing the 530i, but those of declaring it's on par with it's v8 brother are sadly mistaken.

+1000
I was not going to chime in butttt your so right!!!

+10000. There is no substitute for cubic inches.

There is with turbo or super charging. But I still like normally aspirated power.
With a sport automatic, I drive in manual mode most of the time and don't seem to have as soft of throttle response as in D. The sport mode sharpens it considerably and when not in traffic, it's great.

Ha! Couldn't have said it better myself!

You really need to get yourself an M5. It fits the family and does everything you want it to. I've driven many of my friends 550's/545's and it's not even in the same league, nor is my smile. Toss the 550 and pick up a CPO M5. You'll thank me for it. Oh, and don't give me any crap about gas. If you can afford the 550, the additional cost in gas is negligible.

At its peak (model year 2006), the 530I had 255 bhp and 220 lbs-ft of torque. In stark contrast, the E60 550 had 360 bhp and 360 lbs-ft of torque. Simply put, the 550 has a gargantuan power advantage over the 530. For a 550 to lose a quarter mile to the much less powerful 530 basically means that the 530 driver drove perfectly while the 550 driver messed up at launch or in shifting or lacked the will to put the pedal to the floor.
