You should hear a chime as well (as with my E46 and I suspect many other BMWs). Used to be that was all that my car could "speak." Now, it can really talk ... male and female voices. My family calls them Betty (Nav) and Bob (car). I read that BMW gives them different genders to allow folks to readily recognize which is talking to them, the car or the navigator.
