I've NEVER had a front plate on any of my cars...at least not for more than a couple of hours at a time! 
Just long enough to get the fix-it ticket taken care of!

I just moved from socal 2 months ago.
Generally your pretty safe without a front plate(its still illegal).
The places you really need to pay attention to is airports, especially LAX. If your registration is out, or your missing your front plates, they will more than likely nail you there.

This is so rediculous...I just moved up to SF from LA over the weekend. Today was my first day driving my 545, and I got pulled over in front of my house. My car is only 2 weeks old and I haven't recieved the plates in the mail yet, but she gave me a ticket for having no front plates because I didnt have a dealer bracket on it and she doesn't know if I am gonna put on the plate when I recieved them. I can't believe she still have me a stupid 10 dollar ticket for plates I dont even have yet. I dont know how you bay area e60's deal with A HOLE cops like this.
