So, there are 525/530 LCI's?
There are in the UK. Didn't they phase out those in the US and replace them with the 528i when the LCI came out.

They dont have different model years for each model of car, its a cut off point between years and all the manufacturers cars will move to the next model year at the same time. If you believe it or not BMWs model year change is in Sept like most other car makers. It isn't anything to do with the registration document its do do with BMW assembling the cars, its more than likely in Sept so the accountants can finalise the books for the end of the year(if they use Dec as the end of the year) which some german companies do.
Maybe the manufactures including BMW close their books in September and start the next model year for most cars.
But for the 5 Series, in March 2007, the LCI changes were introduced and it was classified as a 2008 model year world wide. That is a fact.

The actual build date is anything built from March 2007 onwards. Which is a bit before MY08 came out I think.
That blows. There should be rules against that. A model year should be as close to the year stated as possible. How do we let them get away with building a car in March 05 and still call it an 06? If they want to keep playing those games, we should at least force them to consider the warranty to be valid from March 05 to December 05, and then from January 06 to January 10, just to make it fair.

Show me the proof. Ive linked an article announcing that model year changes are from Sept show me something that says different other than owners saying it so. Do you really think BMW and other makers change the model year when the do a facelift, update or launch a new car, was MY 07 only a 6 month run then and MY08 an 18 month run?

If Richard in NC doesn't have the docs then I can dig up my purchase order and statement of origin from BMW. I ordered my 08 in May 2007, it was built in Aug and delivered in Sep. The sales rep even called me when she found out there was an open production slot which would have allowed me to pick up my car in July. I'm pretty sure there are others here who got their 08 5er as early as June.

Here's what I was told: BMW usually starts taking orders for the next model year the spring before (March). However, you can still order the current model year as late as May of that year. So there is a few months overlap. On occasion, BMW will delay taking orders - which can explain why some models can't be ordered until late summer.

The warranty starts the day the car is placed in service. So a 2006 5er purchased and built in Mar 05 has a warranty that's good through Mar 09 (Unless you exceed the mileage)

+1 When I bought my 2007 530xi in April of 2007, the LCI 2008's were already on the lot of my dealership. I'd have gotten a 535, but the lease was $200 more per month. Now that is a fact.

Just found this which helps to read the vin. Doesnt work with my car though as european models use "O" instead of a model year as the tenth digit.

One of you guys will need to check to see if im right or wrong about the dates.

Well, if you are trying to say LCI '08 models weren't available in the US in March or April of '07, then you are wrong.

What are you trying to confirm, exactly?

Im trying to confirm that LCI models came out halfway through 2007 model year and 2008 model year started in Sept 07 not March 07.
