The actual build date is anything built from March 2007 onwards. Which is a bit before MY08 came out I think.

That is correct, but USA model years appear to be one year ahead.

Yes you use model year rather than build year but model year doesn't start at the beginning of the year. It's either July or September I think for BMW(Sept for Volvo and others). Which means the first LCIs came out in MY07.

BMW usually starts producing the new MY the spring before (see comments above). However, when the E60 was first rolled out, the first cars were produced in late summer/early fall.

MY in the US is based on what the manufacturer calls it, hence the MY08 LCI in the US. In Europe, the MY is based on when the car is manufactured so LCI started MY07 in Europe...

That's not correct. Model Year is when a car manufacturer releases its model for the following year. Its the same all over the world for each car manufacturer. Normally its around Sept time for alot of manufacturers, im not 100% on BMW actual date change but from looking around they still seem to announce MY changes for the following year in July and Aug which would point to the MY change actually being in Sept. LCI is a facelift and like new models doesnt have to come out on the beginning of a new model year.

This seems to confirm MY changes are from Sept onwards Its dated 26th August, 2008 http://germancarscene.com/2008/08/26/bmw-a...l-year-pricing/ and quotes "Model year 2009 vehicles are due to arrive at dealerships in October. ".
