It still amazes me the misinformation/opinions and from of all places, members of this forum, concerning SMG. I am equally amazed that I am still responding to it.
I guess that's direct proof of what Rudy, SubterFUSE, EBCMS03 etc. are saying about poor marketing and lack of dealership training/understanding.

Heated seats make your ass hot
Does that mean they turn you into Christina Aguilera? Interesting feature...

What are you trying to say Rudy?! My car doesn't feel at all destabilised when downshifting, even when driving very hard, cornering etc...
Have you driven an SMG?

Blah. ya... it does suck. SMG is an awesome tranny. I'm still keeping my car. I just hope it wont cost too much to maintain out of warranty thats all.

About $3,000 to get the extended warranty on mechanical parts. Just get it when you hit 49,900 miles.

I have SMG 325i 2002MY, apparently one of the first BMW SMGs. I dislike it in particular for rough downshifting - no way to compare with considered to be rough E60 auto :'(probably because it was just a poor debut as I never tried e60 with SMG)

DSG is the way to go in the future, combines the best of both worlds. I bet we will see a DSG type dual clutch tranny in a BMW fairly soon. Probably the first 5er application will be in F10. Before that we will see the new X6 crossover (launch in 2008) which might be the opportunity to introduce the new transmission. BMW always launches major new technologies together with a new model.

BTW, Ford is introducing their own DSG probably in 12-18 months time. First application will be in Volvo, and potentially in Jaguar XK. The transmission will later on migrate to Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy in Europe.
Anybody could elaborate what is DSG?

I wonder how the re-sale value will be affected? Anyway to track it and see if it takes a hit? I guess the best way would be to see if the trade-in values are re-adjusted.?.?

Seems to me the two discontinued items, SMG I and Auburn are because of bad marketing on BMW's part. If they had both available at the dealers for people to see up close and be able to drive, they would have sold a lot more. Imagine if the didnt have any Manuals or Autos. Most people who have either the SMG or auburn are very happy with there decision. Its usually the people without either that complain. The dealers don't help by discouraging both either. I Also cant understand why there keeping the SMGIII for the M5, that's the one with all the problems...

I have both Auburn and SMG. I must be some kind of weirdo. Got both against the advice of my salesman, based on info I got here at E60.net (and driving a friend'sM3 SMG). If they were both still available I would get both again. Maybe having both will drive down the resale value of my car enough so that they will sell it to me cheaply when it comes off lease. If not, I have a tough decision as to what to get next.
