Regarding the pressure regulating valve.
As I said before. In my case the engine was rough on start. At the end it got really bad.. And finally the emission light came on (Service engine soon + increased emission)
This is a great DIY regarding the pressure regulating valves (545i has two valves)

As for coolant-related issues - are you folks just replacing radiator/thermostat/tank on miles like we used to do on the E39 540i or did you get a leak and have to deal with it then?

83K miles:
Auto Transmission replaced at 60K due to slight shudder in 3rd gear
DSC controller at 70K due to soft brake pedal
Master cylinder for the above
Window regulator at 60K
Left tie rod end at 65K due to worn ball joint
Battery at 75K
A/C controller at 65K
Now needs a left adaptive headlight and is just out of warranty...damn
Otherwise reliable and great fun to drive. Planning to replace shocks with KW Street Comfort coilovers.

I recently just went over the 63k mark and the INCREASED EMISSIONS light has started going on and off. Made an appointment, because it isn't the gas cap.
