what the phuck are you people talking about here? "550i is rated at 3.9 seconds" - what? "felt no difference between 530i and 535i" - huh?! Guess you should just grab yourself a 520d and shut your piehole, huh?! I hear Hyundai Genesis sedan is about the same size as the 750 inside - so they are in the same league too, right?
if dealers rated quarter mile times instead, think about how much more accurate they would have to be since those can actually be measured by a layman like us. end result: do i think the 535i is actually 1.1 seconds faster 0-60mph than the 530i? maybe, but probably not. no matter what you think is the answer, good luck proving it. surely someone has some track numbers out there for the two cars. that would be more realistic. i bet the 535i doesn't even run 1.1 seconds faster than the 530i on a track, never mind 1.1 seconds 0-60. likewise you'd have to be a moron to believe the 550i runs 2.8 seconds faster than the 530i in a quarter mile, never mind the same discrepancy in just a 0-60 race that it's RATED at.
they say .1 seconds in the quarter mile for every 10hp, weight remaining constant. if you read the thread i posted above, the 24hp actual difference in the 535i from the 530i, and the 74hp actual difference from the 550i and the 530i, puts quarter mile discrepancy actuals at something like the 535i running .24 faster in 1/4 mile than the 530i, and the 550i running about .74 faster. those numbers are far, far off from the rated 0-60mph differences, and the distance measure is further, so you would think the discrepancy is larger.
sometimes you have to put those 0-60mph numbers in perspective, because they are extremely misleading once you scrutinize them. again, they are basically impossible for us to measure, which is why dealers use them so often for marketing purposes.
did you read it all this time? no offense but repeating myself is kind of ridiculous.

550i:
actual: 13.7
calculator (3698/360 wt/hp) : 13.57
535i:
actual: 14.0
calculator (3704/300): 14.1
530i:
calculator (3568/268): 14.45
assuming the calculator is pretty accurate (and it appears it is based on comparison with actuals on 535i/550i), looks like the race is much closer than you thought. i said twice now i guessed the difference from the 530i would be .24 seconds in the 535i and .74 seconds in the 550i. depending on what numbers you use here, looks like .35 for the 535i, and .9 in the 550i. i'd say i was pretty close. in fact, if you compare the actual of the 550i to the calculated 530i, you get .75...exactly what i said originally.
so yeah, the reality is that the 535i and 530i stock vs. stock is not much different. sorry. obviously you can see now your 1.1 second 0-60mph discrepancy is complete rubbish. i can't verify how accurate the calculator is, but it seems pretty accurate, all things considered.

also calculator sounds about right when the 2004 530i 225hp version does the quarter in 15.2 and the calculator gives it the same, 15.2...
