535 does 0-60 in 5.5 sec
530 does 0-60 in 6.6 sec

how can you say there is no difference?

I have neither. But have driven the 550i.There's nothing like a NA engine V8. I fell in love with BMW v8 since my friend's 540i. The growl and the engine thirst for always wanting to go more is fascinating.

Nothing like a GROWL of the engine early morning while going to work. Makes you wake up if you are sleepy (healthier than coffee).

Maintenance wise, 550i is more reliable compared to the 535i. Been here for almost 3yrs now now and ive seen a lot of HPFP threads. TT is not the best choice to go here.

But then again, you don't seem like a performance kind of guy. I say go with the I6 530i and with the price difference, buy a FULL M KIT including wheels. That way you will have the entire look of the 550i with the wonderful fuel economy of the 530i.

BUT, I still say spend that extra penny and get the 550i. Gorgeous car.

from someone who got a i6 because of gas mileage and the "maybe i don't need all the power" etc etc... i will not be getting another i6 i will be getting a v8/550. It will be well worth it. I don't drive to conserve gas and i only use shell premium winter or summer and as someone said when you add up all the extra gas you used a few hundred bucks a year vs driving a car that puts a smile on your face its a no brainer.

550i.

I recently had my 550i serviced, and the SA and I got to talking...he said, "be glad you didn't get the 535...with all of the HPFP problems we've been seeing over and over again, etc..."

I love my 550, but I could use another 50 horses under the hood, at least. My gas mileage has been great....certainly nothing to worry about. I average over 20mpg with mixed driving.

or are you saying a 1.1 second difference in 0-60 is not noticeable?

honestly, there is nothing that can accurately depict the 0-60mph time of a vehicle that an end-user can get their hands on. those numbers are mostly arbitrary. the 550i is rated at 3.9 seconds. that is complete bullshit. try racing a 2008 viper that clocks 0-60mph @ 4.0 seconds (rated 0-60mph that is) and tell me how much he kicks your ass even though he is .1 seconds slower than you.

0-60mph times are marketing rubbish. i felt no difference between the 530i and the 535i, and my 360-hp Z28 was significantly faster than any of the 5-series i raced (besides the m5), even though it's rated 0-60 was only 5.4 seconds (to make the corvette with the same engine, rated at 4.1 0-60mph, to look so much better via marketing bullshit).

go with dyno numbers or track numbers. the 530i (2006-2007) is rated @ 268hp in europe as well, not the 255hp as it is here in the US. same rated weight in either. the 535i is the rated at the same HP in every country. go figure. marketing. bullshit.

what the phuck are you people talking about here? "550i is rated at 3.9 seconds" - what? "felt no difference between 530i and 535i" - huh?! Guess you should just grab yourself a 520d and shut your piehole, huh?! I hear Hyundai Genesis sedan is about the same size as the 750 inside - so they are in the same league too, right?

Yo, 550 is a beast - no doubt about that. And 535 can be made to kick the 550's ass - that's a fact too. It comes down to a pretty personal decision (guess that's why people get pretty personal when they talk about this ) - if you want the 550, and can afford the extra gas, go for it. If you want to be more frugal, but at the same time kick ass, get the 535. At the of the day, this is just a tomAYto-tomAHto argument. Wrap it up before this gets out of hand
