I don't like that it's not an M5. That's what I don't like about the 550.

But things I don't like about the 550??

1. I wish it got better mileage (okay, its not a diesel or Camry)

Nothing else about the 550 specifically.

But for the E60 as a whole?

1. Backseat room could be better
2. Center cluster could be laid out better. For example, steering blocks the turning indicators.
3. The plastic in the center console could be better. It feels alittle cheap.
4. Idrive is slow. Hate the lawyer screen, this sucks. I do like the Idrive overall though.
5. NAV is slow and can be confusing. Its okay but there is better. CD based NAV is not the way to go.
6. No Ipod standard.
7. Steering wheel could be thicker, I have the 06 non-M sport wheel. Should have ordered this.

That said, I'm really happy with the 550 and was a much better pick over the 530 when I was buying in 06.
Forgot the important thing I don't like.

It cost way to much money $$$$$$$$$$$$

I owed this thread pics of my 550i. Here you go: 2008 550i, Carbon Black, Black Dakota, Sport Automatic Trans, Comfort Access, Heated Rear Seats, Navigation, HD Radio, Satellite Radio, Logic7, iPod/USB, Cold Weather, Sport Package, M body kit. Did not regret at all not getting a 535i. I love 550i! Well, other than the fact it's not an M5 A few wishes that I didn't get with this one:
  • It's Carbon Black rather than Black Sapphire
  • Dark Wood instead of Brushed Aluminum (anyone interested in trade? )
  • If it was Black Sapphire, I would get lighter interior color than Black Dakota
  • No Head-up Display

A 550I is a way of life

Baller status inclusive. It has more power than you would ever need... unless you need "M" power of course. I had a 2007 550I 6mt sport suspension and all the extras, it is one of the most reliable engines out there. Gas mileage was 20 around town and 25-27 highway with cruise... of course 90+ is less. Luxury and power is what this car is about more so than any other model in the 5 series.

I have gone approx. 9 track days with this car... and let me tell you the performance is phenomenal. (the glen, monticello and NHMS)

There is nothing I do not like about the 550I... if you have doubts... you may just not be worthy

opps just read the post above... welcome to the exclusive club... too bad not 6mt... but congratulations just the same!!!!

I'm trying to decide whether to get a 2008 535i or 2008 550i. I like the engine and comfort of 535i, but *love* the M body kit and 19" wheels of 550i. I do not care about the 360hp V8 and its gas mileage. I sampled one of each car model the other day. I feel that 550i is slightly "heavier" and stiffer than 535i, which is a downside for me. Acceleration is awesome of course, but I do not miss not having that. 535i's engine is plenty for me.

For you 550i owners, what other things do you not like about your car, compared to the lower 5 series like 535 and 528? Of course, I don't need to hear things that you don't like about 5-series in general

I'm really torn between the two. Let me state again, I *love* the M kit and 19" wheels, but don't like the gas mileage, nor (forgive me for saying this) do I care about the V8 and its sound. Yes, I understand doing those as aftermarket is an option, but I don't like the hassle.

I have max torque from 3200... you are not driving it hard enough.... or you have an automatic. I can go through a brick wall at any speed... and honestly the power is intense if you drive it correctly... The does have one thing over an M5... range! better gas mileage with all that power.

1.The engine doesn't have much on the low end, which means even on 3rd speed it can't accelerate quickly unless you push it really hard and pass 3000 rpm.
535 feels superbly lighter on its feet from start thanks to lower weight and a ton of low end torque.
2. The car overall feels substantially heavier with V8 than with V6 turbo, I didn't realize that since I have not tried 535 before got my car. Not sure if it's due to increased weight or different suspension or steering setup.
3. It's really thirsty.
