lease a 535i, perhaps a 36 mo lease....that would take you into the second/third year production of the F10...hopefully by then the "bugs" will be worked out

The only dirt I can throw on the XF is that it's still a Ford, despite being sold to Tata recently. Jaguar has outdone Lexus and has taken over the top spot as the most reliable manufacturer alongside Buick (WTF?). Still, the front reminds me of a Ford Taurus, while the back, like most people say, reminds you of an AM.

The A6 is not sporty at all. I think a 535 would give even an S6 a good fight and it's about 20k cheaper. So there goes the sporty aspect of it.

I haven't been into mods since I got my Bimmer, and even then I can't speak on mods for other manufacturers i.e. Lexus, MB, Jag, etc. But I know you've seen people speak about the 535 being a beast stock, but ridiculous when you tweak the engine with mods. If you want to keep it stock, the 550i would still be cheaper than an S6 and still kick it's behind. But I would definitely push the 535 all the way. Get a 36 month lease so that you intentional go past the first couple years of the production of the F10. That way you avoid any faults in manufacturing. When the 36 months are over, you may be close to the LCI model, although probably not, and you can then decide if you like the F10 or if the XF gets a redesign if you like that.

Have you also thought of the Lexus IS-F? GS 460 or the GS-F if it comes out?

Since the new A6 is at least 2 years out, that leaves the MB and BMW's new (this fall) mid-sized sedans.
I don't think BMW have any new mid-sized sedans planned for this fall.

The S6 has 420 horse power and 4WD. A stock 535 would have trouble giving it a good fight.
The 550i would give an S6 a much better fight, but it certainly wouldn't kick it's behind.

Well, a 36 month lease on a 535 starting right now would put him about 18 months into the new 5's production. Still another 18 months at least away from an LCI (which would be around 2013 or 2014 I expect).

That would be my choice too. If the four door point is negotiable, I'd also look at the Audi A5. The A6 is also a fine choice, as, of course, is the 535. There's really not a bad one amongst any of the cars on your list and the suggestions so far.
I've driven the XF Supercharged. It was very very nice. Faster than my 550 with a much more luxurious interior although , most importantly for me, I did not think the handling was quite as crisp.

Bottom line is that if you want to stay in BMW, you could assume someone's lease. You can find them on swapalease.com and, as you've seen, there are members here who would have you take over their lease. Best way to find out interest here would be to start a new thread with an appropriate title.

In your shoes, I'd do what I always do when I am out car shopping -- test drive everything. If I can afford the BMW I want (I'm a V8 guy), I end up getting BMW but there's no harm in testing out the competition.

Another good option might be, as someone pointed out, to do a 36 month lease, which is what I did. This way, when my lease is over, the F10 will be sufficiently into its production that, hopefully, whatever big kinks there are will have been worked out. (Although I am not expecting that many kinks for the 550's successor as the engine is in the new 7 and the new hard drive-based I-Drive/nav is in the 2010 M5 standard and, I believe, in the other 2010 5s if you order the navi).
