They did sell 4500 for the year in the U.S. I don't know what their projections were. If you combine, X5 & X6 sales, the total is up from X5 sales alone in '07. For comparison, 5800 Z4s & 6500 6 Series were sold so it's definitely a low volume niche vehicle.
Richard,

I'm curious where you got your sales numbers from. Correct me if I'm mistaken about this: Dealers order cars, so sales figures are based on how many cars dealers order. My dealer exported all the X6s they sold. But these cars would show as U.S. sales statistically right?

That said, there could have been 500 X6s sold and registered in the U.S. out of the 4500 ordered from BMWNA. Right?

Personally, I hope that BMW moves the car into a more conventional leasing bracket. Does anyone remember an example of a BMW that was originally expensive to lease but now isn't? (excluding year end incentives etc) The 645i was very expensive to lease but a 2009 650 isn't particularly so.

Greenberg,
You know what you get when you take 2/3 650i and 1/3 X5 4.8..........X6. My local dealer has sold only 3 X6s. They were all for export. Two of them to Russia.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the X6 was the hottest car off the lot for the month of December. Meaning it sat on dealer lots for less time than any other car out there.

I ran into a guy with a red X6 3.5 and he told me he waited 3 months to get the car in CT. Something dawned on me as I test drove the X6 50, its built using much of the X5 production facility and shares chassis and parts. So whenever BMW gets an order for an X6, they just punch one out off the X5 production line. To create the auora of exclusivity and create a buzz, they make the customer wait for the car. So maybe the X6 didn't sit on dealer lots because they were all customer ordered and delivered immediately...? I can tell you my dealer won't be ordering anymore than its is obligated to. They can't sell the V8 I took for a ride. Its been there for 2 months.

We can go back and forth. Bottom line is, its a great BMW, but its no M car (yet). The punitive leasing numbers have to go. This is not a 12 cylinder 7 series.

I think the X6 has been a huge flop, even worse than the X3 flopped. It wouldn't surprise me at all if BMW dropped the X6 completely. I live near the factory and as I said in another thread, one in 10 cars I see here is a BMW, but I've only ever seen three X6s.

Personally, I hate the styling of it and wouldn't want one if the gave them away with boxes of Corn Flakes. Why does the alternative have to be an M5. Why not an M6 ? Or what's wrong with keeping the 550i?
Hello,

I agree X6 isn't doing well where I live in the northeast. As for M6 vs M5. I like sedans, and.. (I'm opening up my umbrella like the Coyote cartoon charater)...the 6 series offers an essenially imperceptible performance advantage over the 5 (similar weight, same power). The difference is image. When I see an M5 I immediately think the driver is a well dressed long standing BMW owner and when I see the M6, especially the convertible, I think old rich guy in golf clothes who came out of an AMG SL to try a BMW. That's just me...

BTW, I love my 550 but I don't want to marry it. Which is what buying a luxury car off lease amounts to nowadays. It would take 3 years before I could sell it without losing on the deal.

The way used luxury car prices are falling, I would say more like 5 years....

My X3 lease is up late spring, and I will be replacing it with some sort of SUV. Problem with the X6 (besides price) is only 4 seat belts. Not an issue for some but for me it's a non starter. Thinking 2 year old RR sport supercharged or new Audi Q5.
