I have decided to buy the original 'sport' button and drill a hole in the existing plastic gear gator to give it the OEM look and feel. The more I think about it, I just think the best place for the button is on the gator!

good write up!!! only just came across this mod, have a LCI 535d and wondered firstly if you fitted an original Sport button and where you fitted it etc and secondly what kit you used to re-programme to get the Sport in the dash...wonderi8ng if an independent garage would be able to do this on there diagnostic?? although may come in handy if done myself as need to replace faulty head-unit and apparently need to recode second hand unit at a cost of circa £200 at main stealership

Anyone done this on a remapped pre-LCI diesel?
Any info/experience on how does it (or not) interfere with the remap?

Sport Button mod works well to stiffen up the steering on my 2009 535I. Installed a Z4 Sport Button on the center console. Had to modify the circuit board on the button to get instrumentation and on/off LEDs operational.

Looks nice.
Im going to use this button on my pre lci. Did you get an oem plug for the button and do you have the partnumber for it? Not the button itself but the connector

I bought it off ebay used. The connector was on it but all wires were cut (didn't have a part #). The circuit board had to be modified IOT have both LEDs and button functional. You can solder wire direct to the pins if you disassemble it. This would allow you to modify it all at the same time to make it operational.

So...

I want to do this mod on my 2008 E60 with manual transmision and no active steering.
In order to activate that SPORT indicator on dash what do i have to code?

From what i've read, in kombi i must set the following 2 parameters:
FDC_VERBAUT - aktiv
FDC_ID_MONITOR - aktiv

Is this correct?
