Hi

I have a 2008 520d M Sport. It has a factory sunroof, which may be a factor.
I haven't driven the car much over the summer and in typical Irish fashion, there's
been a lot of rain over the last month or so.
Rain water is collecting in the bottom of the passenger door. When I open the door, it
flows out. Unfortunately, the water has found its way into the car itself and the footwell
carpet and mats are wet, leaving a lovely damp smell.
Any ideas to fix the water issue and get rid of the smell?

TIA

Gotta clear your storm drains. I believe there are drains in the sunroof area along with the front and rear hood and trunk areas... the passenger floor is NOT where you want water to collect... my insurance company spent over $13,000 replacing everything from modules and sensors to the main wiring harness as a result of the front storm drain being clogged up on my car. Too many sensitive electronics on the passenger floor, not to mention mold as a factor down the road. The electrical connectors also run the risk of corrosion daown the road as well... not trying to scare you but I went through quite the ordeal with this issue... Get the rug up and dry it immediately... pull the trim pirce right off the bottom of the door jamb that hold the rug down. Lift the rug up and prop it up with a 2x4 or something and run a fan under it - or you can turn the heat up on the passenger floor vents and run your car forever til it dries... The padding is sooooo thick under the rug that it will take a loooooong time to dry it out.

Location of the rear drain tubes. Can someone post pics of the fronts?

Thanks to all.
Very useful information. I've the mats out and soaking in detergent
and I'll check the various drains in the next few days. I'll make sure to take the carpet
up and get an air dryer in there. I also have access to an industrial strength dehumidifier
In the meantime, I'll leave the car in my parent's car port in case it rains again...

Glad to hear your insurance company covered the damage. How did you get them to cover the damage? I thought insurance covers collision, fire, and theft only.

Evidently they cover water damage as well... I was told by a friend/bmw tech to contact insurance due to the potential cost of such damage... and I am glad I did.

May I ask if if the claim had any affect on your rates? The thought of a large claim like that instantly makes me think of a higher monthly insurance bill..

No increase... may have a harder time selling her when its time, although everything is brand new from the carpets and padding to the modules and main wiring harness...
