CCC is the DVD based nav and would be the cheapest option (1000 to 1500). CIC is the newer hard drive based nav and priced higher (2000+). You can find the CIC for cheaper than I listed but once you read the fine print you'll see that the price starts to climb after you add map activation and other coding.

can i only get the coding and map activation done at a stealership or is there a way to buy the software for a laptop to do it yourself?

The coding of the CCC based system can be done with a laptop, cable, and downloadable software. I've read where people have been able to code the CIC system but I don't think map activation is a DIY on that setup, I could be wrong though as I don't follow the CIC upgrade as closely. Many sellers offer the CIC system fully activated and basically plug and play, but the price is pretty high. Read the fine print before ordering.

Wasn't there a member, Patry or something like that, selling CIC upgrade unit? Search for CIC upgrade and you should get lots more results.
