I have a 2004 545i and the volume knob has a very gummy stickyish feeling to it, Also i can not raise or lower music only mute. I can raise or lower music from the steering wheel though. Any solutions?

I can't remember the last time I touched the actual volume knob.

Unfortunately you need to replace the entire headset radio/cd player for about 2000 bucks plust instal or something crazy. Yes there is no way to replace that stupid knob if the mechanism is broken. You can replace the rubber knob but the control it fits onto is what is broken-I have the same problem and looked into it. thank god for the steering wheel knobs! I actually only used the mute button on the knob anyway and that still works like you say. So its bad but not too bad with the other knobs to use

When I realized the knob could not be had separately I made one work.

Pic here: https://5series.net/forums/topic/874...ob-replacement

the incorrect one has the smaller opening. Just heated up a screwdriver and reformed the opening, works good, looks good and cost <$10.

Takes care of the gummy issue, not sure about controling the volume.
