Picked up a CPO 07 550i this weekend. Car is very clean but has a couple minor cosmetic issues. One of them is the volume knob (one on the CD player) has deteriorated and become sticky to the touch. It would seem it should just pull off but I am pulling hard enough I am second guessing that. Has anyone pulled their's off? Does it take a little muscle? Would hate to break something expensive trying to replace an $8 piece of rubber.

Thanks

So figured out how to pull it off, seems to help if you pinch it and pull.

Unfortunately I ordered the wrong knob. Of course the correct one $18 rather than $8. My fault I guess but the correct one (for cars with nav) doesn't seem to come up properly on Realeom

Here are the two knobs. Pretty random part but thought it might help someone.

Not 100% sure, all I know is Realoem has 2 different CD players with 2 different knobs.

One was under Audio, Navigation, Electronic Systems => on board monitor / TV amplifier and the other was under Audio, Navigation, Electronic Systems => Radio, multi-information display

Was browsing parts by the last 7 of my vin.

If you could have waited until your next service, your dealer should have replaced that under warranty.

If stickyness was the only problem, then cleaning it would have solved the problem. I cleaned mine with some soapy water and it became literally like new to the touch.

If yours had become loose due to rough usage, then its a different story. In that case would be great to know whether replacing just the rubber knob would solve the problem, or is the axle on which it rotates also loose?

I also think that my i-Drive knob is a bit loose and I dont like that, would be great to know if that can be fixed without ordering a new knob?
