Default Voltage Regulator Replacement

Hi guys, seems like the Valeo voltage regulator (part # 12-31-7-546-283) is discontinued.

Does anyone know where I can buy one or if I can replace it with a Bosch branded voltage regulator?

If not, I'm guessing I would have to purchase a brand new alternator altogether.

How old is the alternator? Is it the original one? If so, I'd just replace with a brand new alternator.

No, you can't swap in a Bosch regulator -- completely different.

You don't need a BMW branded regulator. Look up the BMW part number for your Valeo alternator at realoem, and Google alternator suppliers. You can cross reference the BMW to Valeo parts available from non-BMW alternator suppliers, who sell identical Valeo parts to the aftermarket.

My Valeo regulator was available from an alternator warehouse for $40 or so.

You can also solder in new brushes for $10 or so -- they're the only parts that wears on these.
