I personally love the iDrive. When I first saw it on the 7, I was like "Wow, that's cool". I am a gadget guy though.

But again, everyone that has gotten into my car comments on how cool it is. If you get into a car with tons of buttons everywhere, it's no big deal. It's the norm. So I like the fact that ours is unique.

Regarding seat memory and key: From day one, I set my seat to memory when briefed on car features. Day later, took delivery and seat forgot me, steering wheel also faltered on adjustment and wouldn't flip up for exit. Drove car for 2 weeks with these problems. Tried everything by the book. Read about key functions and thought second key might hold answer. Another post elsewhere implied there was main key and a second key. Tried other key and after going through all steps, and after problems were cleared, second key was invoked and all functions continued to work magically. I drove around for two weeks on key 2 when key 1 should have been used. Now those problems have gone and all without a trip to dealer, who couldn't help me without bringing car in first. This is just one example of many that are undocumented 'features' one might call a bug, a la microsoft.
I still want to see software version number and any other undocumented features.

No update from my dealer. I'll probably hear something Friday or so.

By the way, I finally got the secret menu to come up. I started the car, put the seat belt on, and depressed the tripometer 10 seconds or so and it finally came up (not through the iDrive) in the tripometer screen area.

The trick above does not seem to work for those of us with Pro Nav.

Anyway, I cannot figure out what the German codes mean on there. I didn't see anything that resembled a software version. I think I have 10.2 or someting like that.

I have the same in a E65 730d.
After the latest visit to the dealer i can't get any more that information.
They updated the software and changed that setting on the tripometer.
I think that is the same you guys are talking about.
Maybe they don't want us to check on that type of info.

I just posted this on another post as well.

I think we're all wasting our time trying to review the software version ourselves. Look at the email I got about this:

Hi,

i don't want to tell you all the data displayed in the KOMBI, but I can
tell you that there is ( currently ) no way to find out about the
softwareversion OF THE CAR from inside the car. The only things you may find
out are the individual software versions of the single controlunits,
but as there are sometimes not all controlunits included in an software
update there is no way to judge from the individual version to the
version of the car
You should ask you mechanican which software version he used to upgrade
the car...

I agree with you. I just left the dealership a few minutes ago. He walked with me through the idrive status window, and then hooked the car up to the computer.

The printout I brought back from their computer doesn't tell me what version I have either. I'm wondering if the software versions that keep getting posted are applicable for just Europe (meaning version 11.1, or 12). He showed me that each of the modules has it's own version/date.

The printout from the United BMW dealership in Atlanta looks like this:

State / Report

Data/time: 06/05/2004 / 10:16
Model Series: E60
Vehicle ID Number: WBAZXXXXXXXXXXXX
Vehicle Data status: E060-03-12-528
Target data status: E060-04-03-506

As he scrolled through, I saw NOTHING that related to the numbers mentioned here.

I'm at a loss trying to understand this. Does anyone in the USA have any details on their software version?

Thanks,

James
