CPO 06 530i beast had a Service Engine Soon light come on last Friday. Stayed on over the weekend, called for an appt Monday, got her in on Tuesday. Light was out, so I considered not taking her in, but had a Run Flat Light, checked tires, all at 30 -32 PSI so thought I had a computer problem and decided to keep the appointment.

Got a call from SA early Tuesday afternoon, bad news. SES light would have come back on because I have one of the three month production run engines that has a problem with the Vanos Solenoid getting dirty and they have to tear down the top of the engine to remove them and clean them. Apparently they are prone to sticking when they get dirty. While covered under warranty, this concerns me quite a bit as the failure occurred at ~22K miles and almost two years old. Will they fail at the same rate? SA says not to worry as they reprogram the software to "prevent" future occurrances. Understand that there is an upgrade to PROGMAN at the same time, but how does a software update prevent failure due to dirt? Have read what is available on this and other forums, but would like an "expert" to provide a bit more than what is there.
Thanks,
Rick
